Loke Yew Hall

Loke Yew Hall

Loke Yew Hall is located in the Main Building, the oldest structure at the University as well as a declared monument. For over a century the Hall has been the venue of major University events and ceremonies. It has a maximum capacity of 695, comprising 468 on the ground floor and 127 at the balcony depending on the seating configuration.

The Hall is named after Mr Loke Yew for his generous support in the early development of HKU. Apart from the rooftop of the Hall, which was rebuilt because of severe damage during the World War II, the interior design and most of the classical ornaments inside the Hall have been maintained in the original style.

The Hall is an iconic venue at HKU, and even appears in the award-winning movie “Lust, Caution” directed by Ang Lee.
